Concussions in Youth Sports
A concussion is a brain injury and can be quite serious. The US Dept. of Health Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has prepared some excellent resources to help parents and players identify the signs and symptoms of concussions, and what to do if you think you or a family member may have a concussion.
All AYSA coaches and referees are required to complete concussion training before they can take part in games or practices. This is also a great video for parents or players. It will help you recognize the signs of concussion and provides information on how to deal with a player that may have a concussion. Learn more in this CDC sponsored concussion video.
You will find lots of information and resources at the CDC website.

In your trusted position as a parent or guardian, you’re uniquely equipped to support athletes on and off the field. By promoting strong and healthy relationships among athletes, parents, and coaches, and by spotting emerging problems before they worsen, you can help create an abuse-free sport culture.
While all coaches are required to complete Child Abuse Prevention Training every year, parents can make a positive impact by also completing the free training online. You can also learn more at the US Center for SafeSport.
